The most awaited festival of Kolkata, the Kolkata International Film Festival was flagged off by the honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal on 14th November this year and it screened its first film on Sunday, 15th November at Nandan. The festival stepped into 21st year this year.
The Kolkata International Film Festival, founded in 1995 is the second largest international film festival of India. Selected films from all over the world are shown here. The prize that is given to the film winning the best cinema is the golden statue of Royal Bengal Tiger called the Royal Bengal Tiger Awards 2015. The 21st edition of the Kolkata International Festival will feature 149 movies from 61 countries in 15 categories in 12 locations. It provides the most innovative and artistic film makers covering many categories of their creative minds. Directors like Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke , Irena Pavlaskova, Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, Iranian filmmakers, Jafar Panahi have come up with movies like Mountains May Depart, Photographer, The Lobster, Taxi, The Rules Of The Game among others contend for attention at the 21st Kolkata International Film Festival.
From 2014, the Kolkata International Film Festival has become a competitive festival. Kolkata International Film Festival has become competitive from its 20tth edition and. this year for the 2nd time, the Royal Bengal Trophy will be awarded to the best Film and the best Director; and the sources says that this year the competition focuses on films directed by woman.
